The kidnapper must not be constrained by exposed plans. He must act to remove threats or threatened as the situation calls for.

The watcher must not be constrained by exposed plans. He will inevitably watch the wrong room and is no threat and should not be killed tonight. He is useless.

On the contrary, you were the only thing that would have made this work. Useless is not the word, splendid is.
